In times of covid every cough can be a trigger for worries and fear but it can also be just a reminder to make it our top priority to keep ourselves in the best possible conditions. If you are balanced, relaxed and in optimal health conditions, your chances to just handle diseases are actually pretty good. Coconut water
Your body tends to dehydrate when you have a cold with a cough. It is important that you replenish your water level. If you don’t feel like drinking hot water, take sips of coconut water. Apart from being sweet and flavorful, it is rich in glucose and electrolytes needed to fight off the harmful germs.

Foods to avoid when suffering from Cough and Covid
- Dairy products
It is best if you avoid dairy products such as milk, ice cream, cheese when you have a cold. This will make your nose stuffy or runny making it more difficult for you to breathe. Although there isn’t sufficient evidence to back this information.
- Caffeine and alcohol
Both of these food items will dehydrate your body. So when you are already losing fluid from the body as mucus, you’re better off these. Alcohol prevents the immune system from functioning properly prolonging the cough and cold in your body. Replace that cup of coffee with a tall glass of herbal tea.
- Fried foods
Deep-fried foods tend to make the condition of cough worse. The fatty acids from oil, lard and omega-6 fatty acids can make the body produce more mucus.
Histamine Dense foods
Histamines are produced by the body to get rid of harmful particles, including allergens. This chemical works by triggering the body to make more mucus. This makes the nose runny or stuffy. Hence, a person who is already suffering from cough and cold should avoid foods that are rich in histamines. Some foods to avoid are avocados, mushrooms, strawberries, dry fruits, alcohol, yogurt, vinegar and fermented foods.
- Sugar
Similar to alcohol, sugar can also trigger inflammation. This can make the symptoms of cold including cough worse. Although it can be comforting, avoid sweets as much as possible.
